Bladed Rubik's Cube

Building a Rubik's Cube out of Minora Blades sounds easier than it is practical. But nothing is impossible if you try hard enough. Currently all the different pieces is being glued together, hopefully this will actually work! Tip for the day - if you are building a toy with blades, wear cloves. If you don't have cloves, make sure the band-aids is in a easy to reach place. Watch this space if you want to see the toy when completed. If you think its impossible, you are wrong!

Kimmidoll Collection

Inspired by an Eastern culture, the Kimmidoll brand was conceived. Filled with Eastern beauty these dolls is the exact example of traditional Japanese identity. What really inspires me about these dolls is that each of them is a representation of one of life's true values. and although each doll appears different, they all share the important values such as happiness, joy and respect. There is so much we can learn about life by looking at the Japanese culture. This dolls is not just of high aesthetic value, but also of high moral value. Making art with meaning is for me, personally, the highest for of beauty in Art. Go check out their website
Although the Kimmidoll collection is mostly available in Australia, the full range can also be found at the Monte Casino, in the concept book store, Skoobs Theatre Books. It is just Beautiful!!

Playing Painful

My own series of designer toys. This is only the start for me. As from this week i will start to build a series of designer toys, but not any toys. The toys will be made out of harmful materials and dangerous items which are typically used by teenagers to experiment with. These materials will include needles, blades, condoms, glass bottles and prescription medication. With this project I am creating awareness about dangerous social experimentation that teenagers and young adults are “playing” with. The idea of “playing” with dangerous stuff is communicated by creating a range of toys that are made of, or contains these dangerous objects. The general connotation about toys is that it is an object for children that they can play with. This object, a toy, is a constructive item that forms the child and helps him to understand the world and environment around him. It teaches him about relationships, identities, cause and effect. Toys are safe, educational, and enjoyable. By creating toys that are none of the above, using materials that are hurtful arises questions about “how safe are the things you play with”. For most teens and young people the experimentation of drugs, sex and alcohol is just a game. It is time to realize how dangerous the toys are that you are playing with. So I will be starting with a Rubik's Cube - that is made out of needles. Check this space weekly to see my proses, as I have only got a maximum of 3 weeks for one toy. Please feel free to give me your insights and advise as to how I should approach this project and campaign.

Marmite Sue

The inspiration for this blog
Who said that designer toys has to be the dunny type of cute and colorful toy design? Marmite Sue, who describes herself as a doll artist, changed that perspective for me to a whole new type of toy design. Her dolls are queer and strange, different in every way, still inspiring and attractive. She has given life to her dolls by imprinting her own identity on the dolls. Their old-fashioned clothing, or no clothing at all, is not only for decoration, but it speaks of topics such as feminism and objectification.
Go check out their web, it is awesome and full of inspiring stuff!!
